Meet Lent C. Carr, II, Ph.D

An Open Letter to the People of North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District

From Professor Dr. Lent C. Carr II, Candidate for U.S. Congress

My name is Dr. Lent Christopher Carr II, and I am running for Congress not out of ambition, but out of duty—to serve, to uplift, and to restore dignity to the forgotten communities of our district and nation.

Our country stands at a crossroads. Under the sway of Donald Trump, an increasingly extremist Republican-controlled Congress, and a billionaire oligarchy that governs without conscience, America is drifting away from its foundational promise: liberty and justice for all. Working families are falling further behind, our democracy is under assault, and special interests have drowned out the voices of ordinary people.

But I haven’t forgotten where I came from. And I know you haven’t forgotten either.

I was raised in Greenville, North Carolina, by hardworking parents who taught me the value of labor, truth, and community. At the age of nine, I was already in the tobacco fields—learning, through sweat and callouses, what too many in Washington have forgotten: the dignity of work and the worth of those who do it. My mother, a gifted horticulturalist, and my father, a principled man of faith, shaped my lifelong commitment to service and justice.

For over a decade, I’ve called Raeford in Hoke County home. I know the struggles of our communities because I’ve lived them. I’ve felt the sting of injustice and political persecution, and I’ve risen from it—not with bitterness, but with a deeper resolve to make government work for all people, not just the privileged few.

I currently serve as National President of the National Congressional Voting Caucus for Human Rights, and I am honored to hold the office of Chancellor and Professor at ECEI University, which has campuses in Fayetteville, North Carolina, across the U.S., and internationally in Ghana and Italy. My academic journey includes a Doctorate in History (focused on American and Middle Eastern studies), a Civil Christian Canon Law J.D., and additional doctoral credentials in Theology, Public Policy, Political Science, and Legal Research.

My life’s work has been rooted in a simple truth: faith without justice is empty. I am a proud member of both the National Education Association (NEA) and the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE). I also lead the North Carolina Taxi Workers Alliance (NCTWA), Inc., a labor union that stands up for the rights of one of our state’s most underserved workforces. Whether in the classroom, the union hall, the pulpit, or the streets—I have fought to defend dignity, promote equity, and dismantle discriminatory systems.

I am also deeply committed to service through faith. I serve as Senior Pastor of Emmaus Cathedral GPACFB International Church, and as Presiding Prelate and Chief Apostle of a national and international Pentecostal fellowship. Through this ministry, I’ve worked to unite rather than divide—advocating for a geopolitics grounded not in fear, racism, or class warfare, but in compassion, truth, and moral courage.

In recognition of my public service, I have been awarded the “We The People” Global Humanitarian Award (2023) and the U.S. President’s Lifetime Achievement Award four times—by Presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joseph Biden. These honors are not just personal achievements; they are symbols of the tireless advocacy I bring to every community I serve.

If elected, I will bring that same passion and integrity to the United States Congress. I will fight for:

  • Working families, not corporate tax loopholes.

  • Farmers and rural communities, not billionaire land speculators.

  • Veterans and service members, not defense contractors enriching themselves.

  • Teachers and students, not culture wars and political theater.

  • Healthcare and housing justice, not broken promises.

  • Protecting democracy, not enabling authoritarianism.

This campaign isn’t a performance—it’s a people’s movement. And I invite you to be a part of it.

We are done being ignored. We are done being divided. And we are done being lied to by those who value power more than people.

My campaign is built on one core principle:
“We’re Putting The Welfare of the People 1st and Politics Last.”

If that vision resonates with you—if you are ready to turn the page on fear and failure—then join me.

Together, let us rise, organize, and reclaim a future worthy of our children, our elders, and every soul who still believes in the American dream.

In solidarity and service,

Professor Dr. Lent C. Carr, II
